OPEN CALL 2020: Animators

We are using an old story, not to reiterate the past, but rather to present it in a new and unexpected way. With this project, we want to make our voice heard not only as artists but as active citizens, and share how we are experiencing storytelling

The world is changing fast and what we thought we could take for granted is just no longer true. The same applies in visual art. We believe we must find new ways of communicating with and engage our audience and we are actually doing it with this project.

The way we do it is by working independently, away from any established form of funding, and directly addressing each audience member asking to support us in any way she or he can.

Collaborating with artists from all over the world, and working with them in all stages of production. Moving away from the usual path of distribution and bringing WHISTLE project to open art exhibitions, as part of a transmedia experience. An entire thematic section under the same roof, that consists of all visual art forms.

We call upon

ANIMATORS
(digital 2D/3D, puppet, stop motion, traditional, clay, flip book, cut out etc.)

We are looking for animators with a passion for imagery that would love to collaborate on a visual project outside the boundaries of the current or established "art world" order. And that's because we do not think of a visual story as an experience that when viewed fades away, but as an excuse, a triggering event, a reason to produce an artistic conversation and a literal dialogue with everyone interested. This is the way we feel visual art should work.

All artists will have a chance to present their work in a broad audience across the world via our social media platforms and international art festivals.

How it works?
STEP ONE: send us an email at whistletheproject@gmail.com stating that you are interested in participating. Add a few words about you and your art.
STEP TWO: You will be asked to transform one static piece of art into an animation. The artwork you will receive, belongs to one the 50 artists that collaborated with Whistle project. It can be a painting, a drawing or a graphic design inspired by the project's theme. Your task is to bring it to life, using any animation technique you like (digital 2D/3D, puppets, stop motion, traditional, clay, flip book, cut out etc). Each animator will receive three different digital files to choose from. You can work on one piece or all three of them. The goal is to create a multi-dimentional perspective of each static artwork. There will be no restrictions on the way you would like to approach your piece. Plus you will have the chance to talk with our art director and have an online chat about the team's vision.
It's an open project. The story and characters are the source of inspiration. You can create any piece of art, using any style, material or technique, regarding "animation".
