Maria Amanda: working in the dark

It's impressive how a single story can inspire such diversity through different mediums! Visual artists from around the world are taking part in WHISTLE project, in an attempt to present a multi-sensory experience never attempted before in the Greek visual art scene. And that's because we do not think of visual art as an experience that when viewed fades away, but as an excuse, a triggering event, a reason to produce an artistic conversation and a literal dialogue with everyone interested. This is the way we feel visual art should work.

In this short article we meet young artist, Maria Amanda, from Thessaloniki, Greece.

She writes...
"My participation in WHISTLE project came effortless as soon as I saw, almost by chance, an open call post on the internet. I was immediately intrigued by the theme. I really love folklore and I felt that such an exercise, linking tradition to modern times, would be extremely interesting!"

"I tried to put myself in the shoes of the protagonist and feel what she felt. The environment where everything was played out. I took my colors and worked my way through, using basic elements of the story as symbols. I preferred to work in a low lighted room, so that the effect is more responsive to the atmosphere of the story."

All the works created for WHISTLE project by Maria, will be available to the public during the transmedia exhibition.
